Spanish artist Pere Ibañez will soon release his latest photography series, entitled I.See.Dark. On the launch date, scheduled for 31 October 2015, the series will be available as an ebook on iTunes and in print at major book sellers in the US, Europe and Asia.
I.See.Dark. explores powerlessness, resilience in the face of challenge and the survival instincts that compel individuals to go on. The series is arranged as a narrative collection, weaving through the cycle of fall and rally. Ibañez shot the entirety of I.See.Dark. in vintage black and white, inspired by classic horror films. Building on themes of folklore and witchcraft, Ibañez staged all photos outdoors, particularly in the countryside of his hometown, Barcelona.
Items from the collection have already gone on exhibit in Los Angeles and New York with some photos still on display in Satellite Contemporary Gallery Las Vegas and Iklectik Gallery in London. The US publication Best of B&W Photography Journal 2015 will also include a photo from the series. More exhibitions are currently being scheduled for Europe and Asia for 2016.
I.See.Dark is the fourth photo series released by Ibañez. His three previous collections, EneME, The Leftlovers and Generation Y, have received international praise. The Leftlovers and Generation Y both ranked #1 in Spain for iTunes ebooks in the art category. All three have also been featured in exhibitions in the US, Europe and Asia.
Pere Ibañez uses his background filmmaking and keen interest in the horror genre to illustrate the extremes of human frailty and strength. With distinct variance in technique and style across his collections, Ibañez moves viewers by unsettling them, forcing them to confront the universal experiences of suffering and endurance. Although he often travels to Spain, Ibañez currently lives in Beijing, China, where he has his studio.
