I admit that when it comes to being a trendsetter, I tend to follow those that stick around for a little while. I like to purchase items for my closet that I know will be back in style the next season. I hate buying something and then throwing the item out after 3 months because it is no longer trendy. I believe in trends with longevity that you could pull off during any season. So I’ve compiled a list of the top 5 trends that are all the rage this coming fall season that I believe will be around for a while. So don’t throw anything out of your closet just yet!
Animal Prints:
We just can’t get enough of leopard print or any type of animal print for that matter. Animal print is a closet staple but I know it’s not for everybody. Wearing a print as a complete ensemble is not chic and could land you on the worst dressed list. When it comes to animal print, simplicity is best. Wear a printed coat, jacket, dress, top, or pant but not all together. Animal print accessories such as jewelry or a handbag can add a little something extra to a basic outfit without going overboard.
Statement Necklaces:
Whether you are wearing one with a cocktail dress or with a simple t-shirt and jeans, statement necklaces can go with anything! The reason statement necklaces have only recently become so popular is because we have learned we can wear them with just about anything! Statement necklaces come in all kinds of styles and colors and can make an outfit stand out among the crowd!
Kimonos:
I’ve loved kimonos for years, but they have been hard to find until recently. Fashion lovers are discovering how unbelievably versatile, comfortable and sophisticated kimonos truly are. They can be worn over a tank/tee and jeans or over an elegant dress. I’ve been seeing kimonos everywhere in all types of styles and patterns from bohemian to floral, cropped to long length. You are sure to find a pattern or color to add a little sophistication to any wardrobe.
Leather:
Just like the kimono, leather or pleather is everywhere! It’s not just found in the outerwear or handbag section either. Leather tops, pants and skirts have taken over fashion. In past years, some have called leather “the new denim.” Leather jackets especially have been re-defined from 80’s retro fashion to something that is a fashion staple in every closet. You are not just seeing leather jackets with ripped jeans anymore, but covering flowing dresses and layered with fur vests.
Layers:
This is a trend that can be done within any season or any time of year. However, autumn brings out the best in fashion layering. As long as you have the right pieces and accessories, layering is not only comfortable but chic. In order to layer correctly, you must first have your basic tops, tanks, cardigans and outerwear such as jackets, vests or even coats. Patterns are a must in layering this season! You can use animal prints, floral and even polka dots to complete your ensemble. Add some accessories such as jewelry, knitted hats or scarves to give your layering some depth. Finish off layers with leggings, boots or flats!
