After weeks of wind, hail and rain, Melbourne pulled out all the stops for our annual celebration of spring fashion with warmth, sunshine and blue skies creating a perfect backdrop for the multitude of fashion industry activities, seminars, designer runways and street style that were on display during Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.

Melbourne Spring Fashion Week hosts an assortment of different events throughout the eight-day festival, the most popular without a doubt is the Designer Series; featuring prominent Australian fashion designers and brands such as Manning Cartell, Yeojin Bae, LIFEwithBIRD, Livia Arena, Aurelio Costarella and Jayson Brunsdon. The Designer Series is held over four nights and showcases amazing design talent from around Australia

With tickets available to the general public, showings of spring/summer collections were presented to Melbourne as the pieces began to drop in stores and online, just in time for our spring racing season.

I had personally been working on the last show of the runway series – the MSFW Resort collections – alongside prominent Melbourne fashion stylist Michelle Cammiade (of Hart & Co). We styled amazing resort and swim collections by We Are Handsome, Franks, Seafolly, Maidenlove, Limedrop, Feathers, Charlie Brown and Wayne Cooper; collections that are making us long for our notorious scorching-hot summers, pool parties and trips to the beach.

Prominent trends that we’ve seen throughout this years’ MSFW are cut-out detailing, cropped tops, strong use of black and white, and of course some beautiful colours to brighten up our spring wardrobes. We’re now all waiting for the weather to be warm enough to allow us to put these gorgeous trends to use.

In the meantime, however, we will just watch our electronic shopping carts fill up with all of the gorgeous pieces presented to us throughout what was probably the best Melbourne Spring Fashion Week that I’ve been to over the years.
