Expand Your Fashion Vocabulary

We all love fashion. We all love the concept of clothing, and the concept of looking pretty and beautiful. However fashion is way more than just clothing, shoes, runways or sketches. It is a whole world, it’s like its own country, and like any country fashion has its own language. Here I have picked out a few of the words that I believe is important to know in the fashion industry.

Pret a Porter. This word means ‘Ready to wear’ and is often heard in the fashion industry, as a reference to clothing. However in Paris it has being used to refer to a fashion event such as pret-a-porter week. So this concept is not also referred to for clothing but also for events.

Haute Couture. This is one of those concepts that many people are familiar with.  This word is translated from French to “high sewing” or possibly “high fashion” which is a reference to the more expensive part of fashion.

FOMOFNO.  This word stands for “Fear of Missing Out On Fashion Night Out”. This is used when you get all crammed up on events that you just can’t hold it anymore and actually doubt whether or not you will be able to go to the Fashion Week.

Slag Bag. This concept can be used to describe some things that you get in goodie bags that you really are never going to use, things like vouchers that gives 20% off a really expensive product, that you are never going to need anyway, or can’t really afford anyway.

Lens Lurkers. These are the people who are wannabes (Harsh, I know) who will be found outside shows in order to get captured by street style bloggers like fuckyeahstreetstyle. These people are usually the ones who are wearing extraordinary clothing and over the top jewelry just to collect attention upon them

These were a few words that should be learned. Fashion week is soon again hitting Copenhagen, so this is definitely a good vocabulary to have, and I might do more words to expand it even more.
