Coco Chanel is not an unfamiliar name; whoever you ask will have an idea of who this woman is, and it is no surprise that her name has traveled all around the world, and has become the name of a fashion icon that inspires us to this day. Coco Chanel is a great representation of someone who came from nothing. Someone who built up their own name and changed the world, an example that shows us that there might be someone out there now who soon will take over the world, you never know it might be you.
Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel was born the 19th of August 1883 in a small town called Saumur in France. She was the daughter of Albert Chanel and Jeanne Devolle, a market worker and a wash lady at the time of her birth. Her parents got married in 1883. In 1895 when Coco was 12 years old, her mother dies of tuberculosis and her father left the family. Because of this Coco spent 6 years in an orphanage at the roman-catholic monastery in Aubazine, where she learned to sew. The school vacations where spent at relatives in the capital, where the women in her family taught her how to sew with more flowers than the nuns ever could. When Coco turned eighteen, she left the orphanage and the ambitious lady went to the city Moulins to become a cabaret singer. This is also the time she got the name “Coco”, when she performed in clubs in Vichy and Moulins. Some say that the name came from the songs she used to sing.
After that time everything went well for the young lady, she began to make her way into history. Her first shop was a millinery boutique. This story about her earlier life is not unfamiliar, many big names have come from broken homes, and they prove that you don’t have to have everything perfect to make it. You can do it if you believe in yourself. But don’t feel bad if you come from a happy home and you want to make it. There is a place for everyone including you. Only our dreams and hopes set the limits, other than that we are undefeatable, we are the leading race!
