Live dance Live, Inc. has been formed to bring dance into people’s lives and to provide an education about the many physical, mental and emotional health benefits that dance has to offer. In order to do so, this organization will sponsor performances, workshops and events that will bring the positive effects of dance to the forefront of the conversation with audiences of diverse backgrounds and settings. In the first year, we anticipate holding two or three events in NYC. A portion of the proceeds from these events will go to a specified non-profit organization. Dance has countless health benefits and we will contribute to other health or healing organizations that focus on such goals as reducing depression, raising self-confidence and self-esteem, finding balance within the body, or finding one’s creative voice through movement, to mention a few. We see these events as a way to experience what dance does. We have helpful educational information to provide, as well as the opportunity to experience performances put together by a growing community of NYC based choreographers and dancers of all ages and dance forms. There are so many ways to use dance as a tool for healing or artistic expression and we are so excited to see what collaborations await. Most importantly we want everyone to enjoy dance just as much as Live Dance Live, Inc.!

So this past Friday, we were at the Live Dance Live event and it was amazing!
Indeed, it was the first time that we saw a show of contemporary dance and we were able to appreciate such an art form. The show was incredibly well connected, well-chosen choreography. The theme was wonderfully unexpected, it was about Hurricane Sandy. Through gestures that artists realized, we understand the story from such a well thought out interpretation.
Contemporary dance continues to move around the concept of the “ideal” body, by questioning, among other things, academic visions of “beautiful” and the dominant aesthetic representations. It introduces “new” poetic references and rituals of aesthetic excitement which play instabilities, the incongruities, the “residues”. Through this performance, the dancers wanted to share the emotion felt during this hurricane and showed us that it did not affect the beauty of the city and its people, in contrast it’s made those effected stronger and unified.
A feeling of relief, of rage and pain. One could ask the question: How did this dance the “here and now” she moves our eyes and body patterns in the trials that life imposes on us. With this show, we could feel the emotions as sensitive and dramatic. Felicia Terlecki, who directed the show did a great job, and her work had been clearly reflected. We thank her a lot for allowing us to cover the event.
We could also note the presence of a charity organization “LIFENET” who continually helps people for free and sure, it is confidential. We have met people in charge and can assure you that the work they make is serious and amazing.
