We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
One of the human necessities that we need to fulfill is giving back and/or contributing to our community. Problems within these aspects are operational issues, situational problems, and in some cases time needed to make sure you are genuinely making a difference in someone’s life . Shedding a rather different light on multi-level school fundraising is Dr. Alvin S. Perry’s Bow-Tie It Up campaign, that pushes both funding towards educational programs and contributing to building character in the youth.
In today’s day and age it’s easy for kids to look at pop culture for style and general ways to live by. This has then transformed into styles that are inappropriate for the educational system. Class, elegance, and self-respect is learned from which relatively lacks in schools which then transfers into the workforce.
Dr. Perry realized this particular struggle while personally spending time with older methods of fundraising for his daughter. As a result he created one of his own fundraisers that solves several problems. Bow-Tie It Up is a fundraiser that facilitates the organization to market and promote neck-ties, bow-ties, and scarves with the school’s color and emblem in support of school fundraising. The “worry free” fundraiser removes the aspect of parents and students knocking on doors to help raise funds for a particular program. The order process is online and the purchases will be shipped directly to the customer.
The accessories with the school or organization’s emblem helps promote character building, general school / community pride, overall unity. The accessories teach the meaning of what it means to be a “gentlemen” and class in young women. When I had asked Dr. Perry about what the term “gentlemen” meant to him, he responded:
…As a man or young man you first respect yourself and them flow that respect on to others. I believe one way to demonstrate that you are a gentleman is in the way in which you dress.
Dr. Perry’s background within the school system as a college professor, public speaker, and author has truly provided him with an opportunity to see within the students that he interacts with on a daily basis. Stemming before this program, Dr. Perry had been given the various daily compliments due to always dressing above and beyond his peers. Dr. Perry for years had been wearing bow-ties regularly and found that he would later find a way to incorporate his style into a business model and a true purpose.
This program is fairly new to the market. I had asked him, what the school’s overall responses to the fundraiser campaign had been?
The students and organizational members have responded very well to the merchandise. Everyone is always so excited to see the Bow-Tie It Up products when I deliver them. Several new partners throughout the months have excitedly signed up and many more are in the works for joining the movement…..I am currently working on spreading the BTIU Campaign to Non-Profits, Universities, and Churches. I am finding out that there are so many different entities interested in the BTIU Campaign.

Bow-Tie It Up Fundraiser in full effect! Todd Smith, Principal, Dr. Reuben Gresham,
and Dr. Alvin S Perry
The overall outreach has been phenomenal and he had mentioned that his family has been heavily involved in assisting him with implementing the campaign.
I have involved my entire family in this project which includes my wife and three children. Everyone is finding out that they have a role to play in the success of this brand. In addition, I have a Board of Directors that I speak with weekly that also provide guidance and direction as we continue to develop.
I see a great potential in the transformation of the student body as a whole and would love to hear about the overall social movement.
